Dear Student

Thank you for joining me here at the Expert English Teacher.

I am very pleased to be on this journey with you, I have guided many students before you to amazing success – too many to count- I can reassure you that you are in good hands. You won’t regret signing up!

I have the reputation for being THE English teacher, in all my schools, who gets the best results – so you will be safe with me and this will be the easiest win ever!

If you just do one lesson a week with me, we will be celebrating your GCSE success before you know it.

Student Guide

This step by step, unit by unit, lesson by lesson approach will equip students with the tools and techniques to pass GCSE English and improve your grades, ensuring maximum success in your final examinations. Expert English Teacher can be used to complement your school lessons, support homeschooling, reinforce prior learning, help revision programmes and guide any of you who are ‘resit’ students to success.

Each month you will have 4 lessons to do and each one will have a video of me talking through the lesson, a PowerPoint of my main teaching points, a workbook for you to complete, and extra resources for extension work and revision.

I will be talking to you for different lengths of time in the videos, depending on the topic but my lessons and the work I set should take you approximately an hour to complete. You can do more by completing the extension tasks.

Part of your work will be assessing your own progress as you complete each lesson, and each term there will be a gameboard to complete to track how well you have done and to share on our private group if you want to.

You will need to print out the workbook for each lesson and fill it in. Alternatively, you can download an online copy to use as you go.

I suggest that you also print out any extra help sheets that you need from each lesson as you go, found in the student guides resources area for each lesson, and keep them in an A4 ring binder. Keep these close at hand, in addition to the lesson by lesson workbooks.

There are a few ways that the course needs to be adapted according to where you are on your journey.

If you are a Year 10 student, you will follow the core course until your end of year exams and then can further extend your knowledge and enhance and maximize your grades by continuing into my Year 11 course.

b3lineicon|b3icon-round-arrow-right||Round Arrow Right

If you are a Year 11 student, you will follow the core course but take the option of final revision sessions in May, so you can sit your exams in June.

b3lineicon|b3icon-round-arrow-right||Round Arrow Right

If you are a re-sit student, you will follow the core course but take the option of final revision sessions in May so you can sit your exams in June. If you are intending to re-sit in November, you can opt to get the whole course at once and do 2 or 3 lessons a week to be ready for your November examination.

If you want to get extra Literature lessons you can get individual modules for the texts you are studying. More details on the next slide.

If you are doing the EDEXCEL course, rather than the AQA course, all the skills are the same, which you will have learnt with me on the course, but I have included an extra unit explaining some small differences in the way the papers are worded and some example EDEXCEL papers.

You can opt to take any of the options for the literature texts.  It is best to study the ones you are already reading at school, or you will get confused.  You only need to choose one from each option block.

If you are home schooled, my advice is to follow these choices, as the most straightforward ones to do well in:  Macbeth,  A Christmas Carol,  An Inspector Calls, Power and Conflict Poetry.

If you are not attending a school, please make sure you have arranged to sit  your exam at the most convenient nearby Exam Centre.

There is a private Facebook group so you can chat with each other and share work and wins with each other and me.

I will have a weekly live question and answer session there in the form of a webinar on a Wednesday evening at 8.00 p.m. Please submit your questions to me by Tuesday evening

karen@expertenglishteacher.co,uk. I find that the general ones are often helpful to everyone.

You can also email me directly with any challenges or concerns- karen@expertenglishteacher.co.uk

If you want private tutoring sessions with me these can be booked separately for half an hour or an hour sessions.

We will have a private members page and it is important that you keep it private in order to protect everyone.

English Literature Modules

(AQA and Edexcel Boards)

EET offers a module-based course for students taking English Literature (AQA and Edexcel Boards). Literature Modules 1-2-3 can be purchased separately inside the member’s area at £39.95 each. Module 4 can be purchased at £59.95.

To complete the GCSE English Literature course, candidates have to study one Shakespeare Play and then choose 3 more texts from 19th Century Novel, Modern Prose or Drama and Poetry Anthology.

EET students will choose one option from each module that they purchase. EET offers modules in the most popular texts chosen by schools.

For students taking the exam in 2021, there is new AQA guidance on the Literature:

The Shakespeare text is still compulsory, but students can now choose to answer questions on only 2 other text options, instead of three, which will take some revision pressure off.

Quotation from AQA guidance below:
‘A minimum common core (play by Shakespeare) that all students will be assessed on. Centre level content choices for students to answer questions on 2 of the 3 remaining content areas: poetry; 19th century novel; fiction/drama from the British Isles from 1914.’
